Capital Sports’ Missouri River Fishing Report: Holter Dam to Fort Peck 6.11.26

The Missouri River is currently providing excellent fishing opportunities. From Holter to Great Falls, low water conditions favor nymph fishing, particularly with Prince and Hares Ear nymphs. Meanwhile, paddle fishing is thriving downstream towards Fort Peck, with regulations advising one hook per line and barbless hooks.

According to Jonathan Miller of Montana Outdoor Approved Capital Sports in Helena, the Missouri River is delivering great action right now. Upstream from Holter to Great Falls, low and slow waters are yielding decent rewards on nymphs and cooperating hatches. Meanwhile, downstream toward Fort Peck, the paddle fishing is hot—just be sure to mind the regulations before filling your final tag.

Missouri River (Holter to Great Falls)
The river is low and slow, but fishing is decent. Last I heard nymphing is the ticket to success. Prince nymphs and hares ear are the classic choices. I am told the PMD’s and Caddis are hatching when the weather is cooperating. When they are hatching it sounds like that bite is phenomenal.

Missouri River (Great Falls to Ft. Peck)
Paddle fishing has been hot! A ton of fish have been being caught at both Slippery Anne and Fred Robinson Bridge. If you still have a tag, this will be your last shot to get it filled. Friendly reminder that there is a requirement of only one hook per line and all barbs need to be pinched or removed.
