Beaverhead River
The Beaverhead is fishing exceptionally well right now, and anglers are finding success from the upper stretches all the way down to Dillon. Subsurface setups continue to do the heavy lifting, with scuds, midges, San Juan worms, BWO patterns, and PMD nymphs all producing steady action.
The bigger story, however, is what’s just around the corner. Pale Morning Duns are starting to make their presence known, with early hatch activity showing up between late morning and early afternoon. It’s not quite full-blown PMD season yet, but we’re close enough that keeping a dry-fly rod ready is becoming less of a precaution and more of a necessity.
Big Hole River
If you’ve been waiting for classic summer dry-fly fishing, the Big Hole is delivering. Salmonflies continue to blanket much of the river, and despite the hatch beginning to mature in some sections, fishing remains outstanding.
