If you were planning on rolling right up to the water’s edge at the Fort Peck Dredge Cuts Fishing Access Site—or the “Trout Pond,” if you’re a local—you might want to pump the brakes, according to a recent post by FWP.
Mother Nature has decided to do a little redecorating, and unfortunately, she chose the dike road south of the boat ramp to practice her “sloughing” technique. Translation: The road down there is currently a bit of a hazard, and Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks (FWP) has officially put a “No Motorized Vehicles Allowed” sign on the access trail.
The good news is that it’s only the cars that are being grounded. The trail is still wide open for walk-in access. So, if you have a sturdy pair of boots and don’t mind carrying your gear the old-fashioned way, you can still get your line in the water.
This closure kicked in on April 30, and FWP is hoping to have things patched up and back in business in a few weeks, provided the repairs go smoothly.
In the meantime, don’t just show up and hope for the best—check for updates before you head out so you aren’t surprised by a closed gate. You can keep an eye on the progress over at the official FWP site.
