Man who drowned in Flathead River identified

On 05/22/2026 at approximately 1550 hours, Lake County Dispatch received the report of an individual who was drowning in the Flathead River near Riverside Park in Polson.

On 05/22/2026 at approximately 1550 hours, Lake County Dispatch received the report of an individual who was drowning in the Flathead River near Riverside Park in Polson. Numerous bystanders and first responders were able to locate the individual quickly and pull them from the water to perform lifesaving efforts. The individual was transported to St. Joseph’s Medical Center where they were later pronounced deceased.

The individual was identified as 48-year-old Joshua Pierre. The decedent was sent to the Montana State Crime Lab in Missoula for an autopsy to be performed.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office would also like to thank Lake County Dispatch, Lake County Search and Rescue, CSKT Police, Polson Police Department, Polson City Fire Department, Polson Ambulance, and numerous citizens present for their coordination and response to this incident.
