Fort Peck Fishing Report by Don Wilkins 4.30.26

Fort Peck is currently an excellent fishing destination, with active walleye, lakers, and northerns. Anglers are finding success with jigs, plastics, and trolling crankbaits in warming waters.

Fort Peck is firing on all cylinders right now, and if you’ve been waiting for the right time to get out, this is it. As spring settles in and the water slowly starts to warm, fish are active, feeding, and spread across some prime, easy-to-target depths. From post-spawn walleye to aggressive lakers and hard-hitting northerns, there’s no shortage of action out there—just a matter of picking your approach and getting after it.

Here is the latest from Don Wilkins at Fort Peck:

Walleye fishing on Peck is still very good right now. The majority of the fish we saw are still in 8-15 FOW with some occasional fish out to 20 feet. Most of the bigger fish we caught the past week are post spawn now.

Jigs and plastics worked better for us the past few days, but occasionally a stubborn fish would bite by dragging a minnow on the bottom right in front of it.

Still finding plenty of lakers in the shallows trolling crankbaits along with some good sized northerns and smallmouth.

Water temps were in the mid 40’s around the dam and duck creek area Thursday afternoon. Temps should start to come up quickly now looking at our extended forecast
