Don Wilkins’ Weekly Fort Peck Fishing Report, May 22, 2026

Walleye are biting on VMC Mooneye jigs and Marble eye jigs, particularly near main lake points. Smallmouth are responding well to KVD crankbaits and jigs in shallow areas. Lakers are being caught in 15-35 feet using crankbaits, with some found deeper at 55-70 feet on specific jigs and paddletails.

Walleye- VMC Mooneye jigs with fathead minnows drug along the bottom, and Walleye Nations Marble eye jigs with Kietech 3.3 inch paddletails are working pretty well still. Most of the fish we caught have been moving towards some of the main lake points and out of the shallow bays. Some fish were as shallow as 5-6 feet and as deep as 20-25

Smallmouth- KVD 1.5 and 2.5 squarebill crankbaits, jigs and plastics, spoons, and dead rods with fathead minnows have been catching a lot of fish the past few days. Shallow, flat points and small bays that are free of weeds and have a solid or cobble bottom have been holding lots of pre-spawn fish

Lakers- still lots of fish shallow being caught pulling crankbaits in 15-35 FOW. We found some decent pockets of them also out on some points in 55-70 feet of water that we caught on some Walleye Hunter Tackle laker jigs and Kietech 4.8” paddletails in sightflash and chartreuse color
