What a Pike’s Diet Reveals About Nature

Turns out this pike wasn’t a mutant; it just ate something so vibrant it effectively turned the predator’s stomach into a leaky fountain pen.

Ever seen a northern pike try to cosplay as a member of the Blue Man Group? HookedupWI recently reeled in a toothy water wolf that was literally leaking blue/green liquid, leaving everyone wondering if the fish had a secret side hustle as a fountain pen.

Naturally, curiosity led to an impromptu fish autopsy to see if this pike had evolved to run on windshield wiper fluid/antifreeze. Turns out, the “biological anomaly” was much less sci-fi and much more “snack gone wrong”: the pike had simply gorged itself on a dyed snack lure that was very much pigmented, effectively turning the predator’s stomach into a DIY tie-dye kit. It’s comforting to know that even in the ruthless underwater kingdom, you are still—quite literally—what you eat.
