Michigan’s Black Lake Sturgeon Season Ends in Record Time

The sturgeon fishing season on Black Lake, Michigan, lasted only 48 minutes, with six fish caught shortly after it began, making it technically longer than last year’s 17-minute season.

Blink and you missed it. This year’s sturgeon fishing season on Black Lake in Northern Michigan wrapped up in just 48 minutes, with the Michigan DNR calling it at 8:48 a.m. after an 8 a.m. start.

According to WXYZ, the season allows only six fish total, and anglers wasted no time—five were pulled through the ice within the first 20 minutes, with the final sturgeon sealing the deal before most people finished their morning coffee.

Somehow, that still counts as a long season by Black Lake standards—last year it was over in just 17 minutes!
