The Central Montana Perch Derby Is Back

Come on down to the Eastfork Reservoir, and see how Central Montana does winter!!

If you’re looking for an excuse to get out on the ice this winter, the Central Montana Perch Derby has you covered. Head to Eastfork Reservoir on January 17–18, 2026, for a classic Montana ice fishing weekend—early mornings, cold hands, and plenty of chances to pull a perch through the ice.

Fishing runs from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. both days, with a $60 entry per team (limited to 75 teams), plus an optional $10 Big Perch Pot that pays out two places. There are categories for Big Fish, Adult/Child teams, and Mixed Couples, along with random prize drawings—so even if the fish aren’t cooperating, you might still head home with something to show for it.

Saturday comes with a little extra fun off the ice, too. There is a mandatory rules meeting at 7:30 a.m., followed by a Saturday night social at the Eagles at 5 p.m., with dinner provided. Registration happens the morning of the event, and applications and rules are available at the Sport Center or online through the Crooked Creek Facebook page.

In short: good fishing, good company, full payout, and a solid reason to spend a January weekend outside. Drill some holes, drop a line, and come join the fun!
