Current Status of Wolf Harvests in Montana 1.28.26

As of January 28, 2026, Montana hunters have harvested 179 wolves towards a 452 quota, with many regions still open. Check unit-specific closures to avoid surprises while hunting.

As of the January 28, 2026 update from Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks, the wolf season is still cruising right along. Statewide, hunters and trappers have harvested 179 wolves toward a quota of 452, so there’s plenty of room left on the board, and most regions remain open. Region 1 and 2 are leading the way, while Region 3 sits at 36 of 60 wolves harvested and is still open for business. WMU 313 has officially closed after hitting its quota, while WMU 316 remains open with room to go.

It is still game on across much of Montana, but keeping an eye on unit-specific closures is key if you don’t want any surprises in the field.

Good luck out there!
