DIY Ice Fishing Hole Cover Hack: Warmer Feet in an Ice Shelter (Clam X600 Setup)

Minnesota angler Beau Rochel shared a simple DIY multi-hole cover for a Clam X600 ice shelter to help keep feet warmer while fishing. Here’s the basic idea, materials mentioned, and an easy foam-tile alternative that’s becoming a trend for overnight shack anglers.

Minnesota ice angler Beau Rochel just shared a genius DIY hack in a social media group: a multiple ice hole cover that keeps your feet warm while you fish for his Clam X600 ice shelter.

Another option is to use those foam pads that are typically used for home gyms that fit together like a puzzle. We are noticing this is a major trend for hardcore ice fisherman. Especially those who are spending the night in their shacks.

He used landscaping fabric, 3M 77 spray glue, and finished the edges with Gorilla Tape—and yes, it folds up into two sections nicely for easy transport. Lightweight, simple, and as easy to set up as it is to haul.

So simple, so clever, and seriously practical! What kind of DIY accessories do you bring along on the ice to make your day more comfortable—or just more fun?
