Don’t Poach, That Includes on Prison Grounds

If you shoot deer on prison property, you might end up behind bars…..

Think prison grounds are fair game for big bucks and bulls? Think again! According to a recent press release, Terry Sellers, 53, just found out the hard way that hunting on Tennessee’s West Tennessee State Penitentiary property is a big no-no. Earlier this year, Sellers illegally took down three impressive deer, including a 15-point double drop-tine, totaling nearly 492 inches. Thanks to some sharp detective work by TWRA and a ping warrant on his phone, the poaching spree didn’t go unnoticed. Sellers now faces six years without hunting privileges, $17,500 in restitution, and an extra $850 to cover the taxidermist—plus, those deer are now being put to good use in educational displays. Lesson learned: prison property is off-limits, no matter how tempting those trophy bucks look!
