Ice Hunters: Why We’re Heading North After What We Found at Nelson Creek…

Smallmouth-found some good groups of fish close to rock piles and rock points in 10-15 FOW. Some shallow spoons and jig/plastics worked well, and the fish were pretty aggressive.

Pike– Spoons over shallow weed beds and shallow running crankbaits caught some nice fish. Better fishing was getting farther back into some of the creek arms over the biggest weed beds we could find.

Lake trout-the fish seems to be mostly done spawning now, and they have spread back out. Still had some good fishing in 55-65 FOW when we found the fish.

We took a drive down to the Nelson Creek area on Thanksgiving morning, and there is pretty much no water in there, so we’ll be waiting for some areas farther North to freeze to get on the ice.
