Shots fired in Boundary County bear encounter

A Boundary County resident reported he was charged by a Grizzly Bear and fired four rounds in self defense.

The incident occurred on State land near Porthill close to the coordinates listed.

A Boundary County resident reported he was charged by a Grizzly Bear and fired four rounds in self defense.

No injuries were reported. A search of the area for blood and the bear was conducted.

The bear was not located and no blood was found. It is unconfirmed if the bear was hit but based on the information provided there is a high likelihood of an injured grizzly bear in the above listed area.

Fish and Game will notifiy surrounding landowners and advise them to be extra cautious over the next few days.

If anyone in the area notices signs of a deceased animal, please contact Idaho Fish and Game.
