FWP Helena Area Reservoirs Fishing Report 8.11.25

From Canyon Ferry to Holter, anglers are reeling in walleye, rainbows, perch, and the occasional kokanee…

Canyon Ferry: Walleyes are being caught throughout the reservoir.  Local hot spots this week were Goose Bay to Confederate, Hole in the Wall to the Silos, north of White Earth and Avalanche to Hellgate. The north end bays are producing walleye as well.  Most walleye are being caught on bottom bouncers with a worm harness or slow death rigs in 20 to 30 feet of water.  Rapalas and jigs are working as well with chartreuse being the preferred color.  A few perch are being caught by anglers using walleye rigs in these same areas.  Rainbows are being caught on walleye gear, lures or cowbells in the traditional walleye spots as well as the north end of the reservoir around Cemetery Island and Hellgate. An occasional smallmouth bass is showing up around Cemetery Island.  Shore fishing is slow.  Troy Humphrey, FWP, Helena

Hauser: A few rainbows are being caught from shore at the Riverside Campground area while using crawlers and a marshmallow, Prince nymphs, or Powerbait. Boat anglers are catching rainbows between York Bridge and Black Sandy while trolling cowbells and spinner combos or various crankbaits with lead core line. A few walleye and perch are being caught inside the Causeway arm, around the Eldorado tailings, and between Trout Creek and Soup Creek while using various jigs tipped with leeches or crawlers.  Chris Hurley, FWP, Helena

Holter: Rainbow fishing has been good while trolling gold-colored crankbaits with lead core line around the Split Rock area. Good numbers of perch and walleye are being found while pitching various jigs and worms in 15 to 25 feet of water around Mann Gulch, Cottonwood Creek, and the Oxbow Bend. The kokanee salmon bite has been hit or miss, but the best action has been near the Dam during the early morning hours while trolling dodgers or cowbells with hoochies and shoepeg corn 50 to 100 feet deep.   Chris Hurley, FWP, Helena
