Okay, we know this isn’t Montana news, but it sure hits close to home. In 2022, a trail cam in central Alberta captured a pretty intense moment: a grizzly bear and her two cubs chasing down a band of wild horses. It happened just a couple of hours northwest of Calgary, but it’s a powerful reminder of what these apex predators are capable of. The footage is part of a long-running study by the Help Alberta Wildies Society, which has been tracking the lives—and losses—of Alberta’s wild horses since 2014. While this drama played out north of the border, it’s definitely a reminder for all of us in grizzly country: these bears are strong, smart, and never to be underestimated.
