Grizzly Bear and Black Bear

When grizzlies and black bears meet, it can sometimes be less of a friendly forest reunion and more a heavyweight smackdown…

When it comes to bears, it’s not always one big happy forest family—grizzlies and black bears can be more like feuding neighbors. Grizzlies are bigger, meaner, and not above flexing their size advantage when they cross paths with a black bear. In fact, there are where a grizzly absolutely wrecked a black bear in a territorial showdown. It’s nature’s version of “wrong place, wrong time,” and a reminder that even in the bear world, there’s a clear pecking order—and the grizzly usually sits at the top.
