“Montana’s hunting and shooting heritage is part of who we are,” Gov. Gianforte said. “It’s inspiring to see so many young Montanans learning responsibility, focus, and respect for the outdoors through school archery programs.”

The NASP program is administered by Montana FWP in 150 schools across the state, teaching over 10,00 students safe and responsible archery skills as part of school curriculum.

During a rally held in the gymnasium, the governor, Director Clark, and FWP Educator Ryan Schmaltz celebrated the Twin Bridges students who participated in the NASP State Bullseye Championship held in March in Helena.

After a demonstration from students shooting at bullseye targets placed before an arrow resistant net in their gymnasium, the governor presented a special bow to Twin Bridges student Maverick Greemoore who was one of three students who tied for first place at the state championship.

“I’m just so happy that everyone is here to support me,” said Greemoore. “I practice for four to five hours each day, while balancing school and other responsibilities. Archery is very important to me.”

In 2023, Gov. Gianforte defended funding for programs like NASP and spoke out against federal rules issued by the Biden administration that would eliminate federal education funding for archery and firearm safety courses in Montana schools.
