Early Saturday morning, FCSAR was dispatched to an area near The Star Meadows Ranch, north of Whitefish for a missing person. The subject had been missing since mid afternoon Friday and was not dressed for the weather.
Flathead County Search and Rescue, North Valley Search and Rescue, 2 different dog teams, multiple foot searchers, a couple side by sides and a drone were used in the search that lasted until the mid morning hours of Saturday.
In a situation like this, 95% of missing people who walked away are found within approximately a 2 mile radius of their last known location. However, this person was found well outside of the search area after he had traveled approximately 14 miles! Luckily he was only suffering from mild hypothermia.
