82-Year-Old’s Fishing Trip Turns Into Survival Ordeal

They say patience is key when crawfishing, and that couldn’t be more true for one 82 year-old man….

They say patience is key when catching crawfish, but according to a press release, an 82-year-old Louisiana man found himself waiting way longer than planned after getting stuck waist-deep mud off I-10 in LaPlace late Sunday night. What started as a routine crawfishing trip turned into a full-blown rescue mission when the man, unable to free himself and with a waterlogged phone, spent hours stranded in the mud.

After his family reported him missing, officers jumped into action. With some solid teamwork, a drone, and good old-fashioned rope work, officers tracked him down and pulled him to safety. Despite the ordeal, the man was alert and taken to a hospital for a check-up.

Sheriff Mike Tregre praised his team’s quick response and threw out a friendly PSA that applies in Montana, too: If you’re heading outdoors—whether for fishing, hunting, trapping or just a walk—let someone know where you’re going. Because sometimes, the mud wins!
