Fresno and Nelson Reservoirs Fishing Report by Brian Olson 2.27.25

With warming temps and melting snowpack, reservoirs are wet and sloppy, ice is pulling back, and the best trout fishing of the year is just around the corner—tread carefully and cast wisely!

Fresno is 23% full, inflow is 3054 cfs & outflow about 40 cfs. Nelson is 68% full, inflow 246 cfs & no outflow. Both reservoirs are sloppy & wet due to warmer weather melting snow pack. Most of the Hiline reservoirs have the ice packs pulling away from the shorelines. Use caution getting on ice, check ice for safety. The smaller reservoirs will be ice free first, the trout fishing then can be the best in the year. Expect early spring weather. Good luck.
