Montana Grant Shares Highlights from the Great Rockies Sports Show in Billings

From ice fishing tips to trout ponds and turkey tales, Montana Grant shares highlights and gratitude from the Great Rockies Sport Show in Billings—where outdoor adventures came to life!

I just wanted to Thank all the folks that stopped by to visit with Montana Grant at the Great Rockies Sport show in Billings, last weekend. It is always nice to share stories and information. Montana Sports of all ages enjoyed the event and celebrated Montana Best together.

Eager anglers enjoyed my Ice Fishing seminar and are ready to hit the hard water. We discussed tips and tricks about ice fishing. Several new ice condition reports mean that safe ice, for many waters, is here. The recent wave of polar cold has seen to that.

The Montana Pike Masters club did an excellent job mentoring the trout fishing pond. Eugene Friedrich, the club president, and his crew had an arsenal of baits, rods, and gear to help tackle the trout ponds full of trout. I wonder how many anglers can remember when they caught their first trout at an Outdoor Show.

Turkeys were “Gobbled”, elk were “Bugled”, and future trips were planned. A well-groomed African lion enjoyed meeting so many curious folks. Reid Stovall presented a wonderful seminar on archery hunting elk.

My grandson Clyde cannot resist any opportunity to catch a Biggun (see the photo above). He patiently watched his bobber and hooked several trout. Clyde’s father Dylan helped his son hook up, as the grandfathers watched. Nothing puts a smile on a kids face better than a big fat fish!

Lots of food fed the crowds. Plenty of boats, RV’s and gear booths offered plenty of options for sportsmen, women, and kids to consider. The freezing cold failed to keep the tough Montana crowd away.

I signed a box full of my new book, “Welcome to Montana Grant.” The book is also available on Amazon Books. The many Montana stories, recipes, pictures, tips, and tricks are sure to please. Each book came with a crafted bookmark that had a feather from my last Springs Gobbler.

The Great Rockies Show has been around for over 2 decades. Bill Reier, the show producer, has also enjoyed presenting this annual event to so many families, friends, locals, and guests. Shows like this invite all to celebrate Big Sky Country together.

I would like to wish all Montana hunters, anglers, and sports to have a safe year of outdoor adventure and fun.
