Weekly Fort Peck Ice Fishing Report by Don Wilkins 12.26.24

Nelson Creek’s ice is holding strong on the ramp side, but don’t wander too far—McGuire’s shoreline is still playing it risky. Read more from Don Wilkins here!

The ice down the dry arm out of Nelson Creek is hanging in there on the ramp side, as of this Wednesday measuring 6-7 inches. The shoreline trying to go towards to McGuire was broken up and unsafe and will most likely take a few days to heal up when the temps come back down after the first of January.

The fishing was good again this week with lots walleye, some catfish and several nice ling ending up on the ice, Tip-ups with minnows caught nearly all the fish again. When the bite slowed in one area we moved lines closer to where there was some action and kept a pretty steady bite all day.

There was some ice forming in the shallow bays of Flat Lake and in Bear Creek, so hopefully, after the first, we will start seeing some of the shallow areas around the dam start to freeze up. Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas!
