The main stem of the Bitterroot has had some consistent afternoon dry fly action. Lots of Mahogany Duns and BWO’s with the occasional October Caddis to throw in the mix. Long leaders and dead drifts will see far more action than using the right bug. If you must go underneath short leashing a worm or perdigon is not a bad option. 3-4′ between indicator and your tungsten bead is a good place to start. Lots of fish are hanging in the middle of the runs and the tail outs. Temps will be favorable for the foreseeable future for good-great dry fly action. The river has been quite lately too, not a lot of folks taking advantage of the mild fall, I guess hunting season is too tempting and filling the freezer is likely more essential.
