Brett French reports: Hawg hunting–Lunker Fort Peck chinook salmon lure anglers

There are so many intricacies to fishing for chinook salmon at Fort Peck Reservoir it can be a bit intimidating. That’s why it was nice to go with a veteran, like the Captain, for my first outing last month. From flies to cutbait plugs, flashers to downriggers, the details are overwhelming on a first outing. That’s why it’s cool that an average Joe like Jim Fauth, a Malta retiree, caught the new state record salmon this summer. The fact that it took him so long to find a certified scale that the fish may have lost a couple of pounds is a bit sad, though. Oh well, live and learn.
