According to a press release and social media posts by Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW), a recent operation led by CPW successfully removed 14 invasive bighead carp from Arvada’s Jack B Tomlinson Park, following a tip-off from a vigilant member of the public.
Acting swiftly, CPW’s aquatic biologists conducted a thorough sweep of the area, employing advanced electrofishing methods to apprehend the hefty carp, each measuring a minimum of three feet in length, with the largest weighing a staggering 46 pounds. These invasive species, known for their disruptive impact on native ecosystems, pose a significant threat to Colorado’s aquatic biodiversity.
Invasive species have to be removed from our waters to ensure overall aquatic health for all wildlife. While all invasive species might not be as big as these carp, nothing should be in our waters that doesn’t belong.
