Bozeman, MT, May 12, 2023—The Custer Gallatin National Forest will delay the opening of some roads as scheduled on May 16th due to heavy spring snow accumulation. Hyalite Road #62 with access to Grotto Falls trailhead, Hyalite Day Use Area at the Hyalite Reservoir and the Blackmore, History Rock, Lick Creek and Practice Rock Trailheads will open as scheduled on the morning of May 16th.  East Fork Hyalite 62 will remain closed due to snow levels.

Other delayed road openings on the Bozeman Ranger District include Olson Creek 6944, Jackson Creek 977, Spanish Creek 982, Moose Creek 479 and Portal Creek 984.  Any other roads not listed may also be delayed as crews get out and find conditions not conducive for opening.

Reservable campgrounds will be available for reservations between May 26th and September 24th.

With rain forecasted for early this weekend, the snow that is still on the roads will delay seasonal road openings until the roads are snow free and firm enough to travel over.

“We ask visitors to help us by honoring these closures and staying off saturated roads and trails when they are too wet to travel on. We are working to reopen roads once resource impacts can be mitigated, and visitors can travel safely,” said Public Affairs Specialist, Charity Parks. “Please check back regularly for updated road conditions before making plans to travel onto the Forest.”
