In February of this year, Idaho Fish and Game (IDFG) received a report of “dogs harassing and attacking elk”.  According to a press release from IDFG, two dogs had killed an elk calf and were attacking another one upon arrival of the officers.  The second calf elk did die from the injuries sustained by the dogs.

For lack of other means of preventing the dogs from attacking more elk, the dogs were killed, and the owners were notified.

Harassing wildlife is illegal, which is part of why it is so important that people keep their pets leashed and under control–especially in areas known to have wildlife. Even if your dog is the friendliest dog, you can’t actually predict the outcome of all situations involving wildlife.
