Fort Peck Walleyes, Watch Out–Here Come the Wards!

The Wards, accompanied by their dog Benneli, faced challenging weather during their fishing trip in Montana but transformed the experience into cherished memories. With determination and teamwork, they navigated the elements and enjoyed their time on the water, ultimately proving that great company can enhance any outing despite adverse conditions.

They say you can’t choose the weather, but you can choose your crew. And if you happen to be Dan Ward, Jon Ward, and his beautiful wife Caitey, you already know that the right company can turn a meteorological mess into a masterclass in making memories.

Oh, and let’s not forget the real captain of the ship: Benneli, their 14-week-old pooch, who proved that you’re never too old for a good old-fashioned Montana boat ride.

The past few days started with a Big Sky curveball. Mother Nature decided to flex a little, throwing wind and rain at the group. It was the kind of weather that makes lesser anglers pack up their tackle boxes, go home, and nurse a warm mug of coffee while staring longingly out the window.

But the Wards are NOT “lesser anglers.”

Recognizing a crew that was not giving up (and an adorable puppy), the Walleye Gods decided to smile down on them.

The strategy was a little bit of river stealth combined with a whole lot of Fort Peck tenacity. To stack the deck even more, they were joined by none other than the Captain of the Montana Outdoor Radio Show. For three glorious days, this crew navigated the elements, outsmarted the waves, and found exactly what they were looking for.

Sometimes, the visits where the weather doesn’t cooperate are the ones that stick with us the longest. It turns out that a little river, a massive lake, and a boat filled with laughs, love, and walleyes are exactly what the doctor ordered.

Mother Nature gave it her best shot—but the Wards still won.
