Fort Peck Rock Creek Ice Update: Rapid Deterioration After Warm, Windy Days—Use Extreme Caution

Rock Creek ice briefly improved with last week’s colder weather, but recent warmth and wind have quickly degraded conditions. With no real cold ahead, the ice season is wrapping up—use extreme caution even on foot, as shifting ice and soft shorelines are increasing risk.

Ice conditions in Rock Creek had improved after the colder weather this past week, but have deteriorated pretty quickly after the past couple of warm days and wind.

Without any real cold weather in the future, we are wrapping up our ice fishing season and would advise extreme caution even if walking on. The ice has moved and shifted a lot over the past couple of days, and the shorelines are getting very soft.

The upside to this is that we shouldn’t have to wait too long to get the boats out on the water. Time to get busy going through the open water gear.
