Don Wilkins’ Weekly Fort Peck Ice & Fishing Report 2.6.26

Ice conditions and fishing varied this week in Rock Creek and McGuire. Reports noted strong northern bites in shallow water but melting shorelines and changing ice thickness require caution for safety.

Ice conditions and fishing activity have been changing quickly in both Rock Creek and McGuire this week. From strong northern bites in 12–20 FOW to varying ice thickness and melting shorelines, there’s a lot to pay attention to before heading out. Check out the full report below from Don Wilkins:

Ice in the Rock Creek area was still about 11” when we left there on Wednesday, but the shoreline was starting to melt out in a few spots. The northern bite was fantastic fishing anywhere from 12-20 FOW. Lakers were pretty scattered out, and we found more in less than 35 feet than out deeper

We moved back into McGuire on Thursday and are finding 16” of ice on average. Spots that had large areas of dirt and sand have melted out a bit with the warm weather. Shorelines are melted a bit in spots also, so check the ice frequently wherever you go. Stay safe and good luck out there
