Animals Have Some Crazy Survival Techniques

When cold weather tries to kill them, these critters just wait it out….

Now, we don’t have alligators up here in Montana, but we do visit other states, and some of them do have alligators. One interesting thing to consider, which is pretty insane to think about, is that American alligators can literally freeze in place and be just fine afterward when it warms up. Last year, that happened down in Texas.

When temperatures drop hard, they’ll slide into the water, stick their snout above the surface to breathe, and let the rest of their body get locked into the ice like some kind of prehistoric popsicle. Then, when things warm back up, they thaw out, swim away, and carry on as if nothing happened. No recovery period or anything. Just business as usual. Nature is weird, and, honestly, it can be a little bizarre at times. Click this link HERE, and watch the video below to for footage that is crazy to see if you’re not super familiar iwth gators.
