Someone in Suttons Bay, Michigan, woke up to what looked like a snowman’s breakfast scattered across the yard…perfectly rolled little spirals of snow that resemble cinnamon rolls more than winter weather. According to Fox Weather, hese oddball creations are called snow rollers, and no, a bored neighbor didn’t make them. They form all on their own when snow, wind, and temperature line up just right. The snow has to be sticky but not too sticky, the ground has to let it slide, and the wind needs just enough muscle to get things rolling without blowing them apart. When that balance hits, the snow literally rolls itself into loops, sometimes uphill, sometimes downhill, and then disappears as quickly as it arrived. If you ever stumble across them, consider yourself lucky — snow rollers are one of winter’s blink-and-you’ll-miss-it party tricks.
