Sharp Objects with a Dull Policy or On Point?

Do you think that banning machetes and asking people to drop them in boxes will solve a problem of machetes being on the street?

You seriously can’t even make the news up these days. Over in Victoria, Australia, they’re banning machetes and long knives to “get them off the street”—and to make it “easy” for people to comply, they’ve set up drop boxes (aka disposal bins) statewide for an amnesty period so anyone can just hand over their sharp stuff. And they actually think this will work. I guess apparently all those sharp objects were just looking for a good dropbox this whole time.

What are your thoughts on this? Good idea or pointless?
