Blackfoot Splash Draws Investigation

When weed control turns into water trouble…

You may have seen a recent video making the rounds —that one with the vehicle splashing around in the upper Blackfoot. Monatna Trout Unlimited had quite a few folks reach out, and here is what is really going on.

The group behind the wheel allegedly included contractors hired to do weed control for Powell County. If this is true, it was a good intention, bad execution. Apparently, they were driving through the river without the proper permits — not exactly the textbook way to treat a Montana waterway.

Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks (@montanafwp) is currently investigating the incident and looking into possible citations. In the meantime, the project has been stopped, or at least put on hold.

Big thanks to everyone who flagged the video and spoke up. Your watchful eyes help protect these treasured places. If you ever spot activity that seems fishy (and not the trout kind), report it to FWP or your local Conservation District.
