Decision Notice – BLM Ninemile Beaver Dam Analogues FWP-DN-FSH-124-R2-25-030

FWP approves a plan to boost stream health with beaver dam analogues, no animal engineers required.

Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks will issue a Stream Protection Act 124 permit to the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has applied for a SPA 124 permit to conduct low-tech process-based restoration in two unnamed Blackfoot River tributaries near Ninemile Prairie. The project will increase stream channel complexity by adding beaver dam analogues (BDAs), inundate the adjacent floodplain, extend the period of streamflow throughout the season, and improve stream sinuosity over time.

Based on the environmental review provided in the Draft EA, and, to the greatest extent possible, in accordance with all applicable laws, rules, regulations, and policies, FWP determined the proposed action (Alternative 2), will not have significant adverse impacts on the human environment and constitutes a reasonable and appropriate strategy to achieve identified objectives. Therefore, preparation of an environmental impact statement or EIS is unnecessary.
