Bighorn River Fishing Report 7.27.25

Late-morning nymphing is where it’s at on the Bighorn, with PMDs and friends doing the heavy lifting—just don’t bank on hoppers to save the day.

The following report is by Bighorn Angler:

It’s game on!  PMD’s finally are showing up in good numbers, at least below 3 Mile.  The fish are on them, but they are by no means easy.  Bring your best dry fly game and you will be rewarded with some big healthy fish.  We’re also seeing a good amount of Black Caddis, which should be a bigger deal once we get into the month of August.

The nymph bite has been very good from later in the morning till 4 or so.  Split case PMD’s, Frenchies, Tailwater Sows, Carpet Bugs and a variety of PMD nymphs are working well.

Hoppers haven’t really been a big deal so far this Summer.  You’ll find a few eats here and there, but not as consistent as past years.
