Fishing reports across Western Montana range from slow to very good—but let’s focus on the bright side.
Dry Fly Action:
Dry fly fishing continues to be productive on many waters. Anglers are finding success with:
• Yellow Sally patterns
• Congo Caddis
• Transformers
• Plan B patterns
• PMDs
• A variety of caddis patterns
Nymphing:
Subsurface action has been solid as well. Some of the top-performing nymphs this week include:
• Jig-head Pheasant Tails
• Spanish Bullets
• Euro-style nymphs
• Super slender patterns
• And of course, don’t underestimate your personal confidence flies
Timing Matters:
The best fishing windows vary depending on the river and section you’re targeting. Pay attention to water temps and hatch activity to dial in your approach.
Georgetown Lake:
Some anglers have been hitting home runs here using a mix of secret patterns and refined techniques. If you’re heading that way, keep an eye on the wind forecast—it can make or break your day on the water.
The Blackfoot:
An early start seems to be key. Word is, the fish are more active before the sun gets too high—if you trust what the locals (and little birdies) say.
