Rolling Can Get Risky for Horses

Shed season is exciting — unless you’re a horse lying in the wrong place…

Every year, as deer shed their antlers, nature leaves behind gifts that spark excitement for shed hunters. Curious dogs and the thrill of stumbling across that perfect antler in the brush is just exciting. But what feels like a lucky find to us can be trouble for others. For horses, especially those that love a good roll in the dirt, these antlers aren’t harmless ornaments; they can be hidden hazards. A shed buried in just the wrong spot can leave a horse with more than just a dusty coat — it can cause real pain and injury. It’s a strange thing to consider from nature but very possible. It’s crazy to think that something so beautiful and prized by one creature can be a painful surprise for another.
