Don Wilkins Weekly Fort Peck Fishing Report 5.8.25

From feisty pike that’ll hit anything to bass moving in like spring breakers, the bite is hot—if you’re willing to move, jig, and maybe dodge a few overachieving lake trout…

Walleye-we didn’t target walleye much this past weekend but the few we did catch were smaller eaters caught on plastics and 1/4 ounce jigs. These fish were in less than feet of water where the temps were near 50 degrees.

Smallmouth-the bass fishing is great now targeting them with slip bobbers, jigs and plastics, and Ned rigs. The majority of the fish caught were between 5-10 feet. Seeing some pretty big fish moving up now.

Lake trout-fish are still scattered out and it takes some moving around to stay in the fish. Getting the boat stopped and dropping the jigs right on top of them was the best way to get them hooked up last week.

Pike seem to be everywhere right now and are pretty aggressive hitting just about anything we have been throwing out there.
