Washington Cracks Down on Chronic Wasting Disease—New Rules for Hunters

Heading west to hunt in Washington? New rules are in place to stop the spread of chronic wasting disease—know before you go!

If you’re heading west to Washington to hunt, take note—a press release revealed that WDFW has approved new rules to prevent the spread of chronic wasting disease (CWD). These include restrictions on transporting deer, elk, and moose, a statewide ban on feeding or baiting these animals, and mandatory CWD testing in affected areas. CWD was first detected in Eastern Washington in 2024, and these measures aim to keep it from spreading. Before your trip, be sure to review the latest regulations on WDFW’s CWD webpage.
