The Art of Not Becoming Lunch for a Grizzly Bear

There’s a fine line between a bear encounter and a bear attack—this hunter played it just right…

If you ever run into a grizzly, the last thing you want to do is freak out and run—that just makes you look like fast food. Instead, stay cool, calm and, if you can, make yourself look big and unafraid while backing away slooowly. Although it is unclear where this confrontation took place, this hunter did just that when he found himself face-to-face with a big ol’ female griz–with cubs! No panic–well, there was panic–but, no sudden moves—just steady nerves, heavy breathing and a smart retreat. The bear did end up going back to its cubs, according to Wide Open Spaces, and the hunter walked away with one heck of a story to tell. Wow.
