Cold Comfort: At Least the Sky Looks Cool!

Billings woke up to a bone-chilling -20 degrees, but Mother Nature made up for it with a sundog light show!

Billings woke up to a brutal -20 degrees this morning, with the wind chill making it feel closer to -40—but at least Mother Nature threw in a spectacular sundog as a consolation prize! If you’re not familiar with these beautiful wonders, a sundog is a colorful spot of light that forms when sunlight refracts through ice crystals in the air. According to the National Weather Service, these “mock suns” appear about 22 degrees to the left or right of the sun (or both) and shimmer in a gradient from red to blue. Freezing temperatures aren’t always fun, but catching a sundog kind of helps!
