Montana firefighters rescue dog that fell through ice

Kudos to these two Montana firefighters for rescuing a German Shepherd that fell through the ice this afternoon.

From Smith Valley Fire Department

This afternoon at 15:13 Smith Valley Fire was dispatched to the north end of Smith Lake for a dog that had fallen through the ice. Command Unit 951 and Rescue 952 arrived on scene and found a 60 pound German Shepherd named Stella in the ice with the owner nearby trying to keep the her calm. Rescue crews were able to safely rescue Stella and reunite the owner with her fur baby. Excellent work FF Joshua Trogden and Capt. James Brower!

❄️Remember, ice is NEVER guaranteed to be safe, no matter the thickness.

❄️If you venture onto the ice, be sure to use caution and use the buddy system.

❄️Reach-Throw-Go: if someone falls through the ice and you can’t reach the person from shore, throw a flotation device or rope. If you can’t quickly help the person, call 911 immediately! Take precautions not to become a victim yourself.
