Weekly Fort Peck Fishing Report by Don Wilkins 12.11.24

Caught on tip-ups, broke off by bigger bites, and battling 50 mph gusts—Fort Peck fishing was anything but boring this week.

Update: Update-we went out this morning,12-12,to the Nelson boat ramp to set gear and while we did get lines in around the point towards McGuire,if you don’t know exactly what you’re looking for on the ice please don’t go,there are several places out there with less than 2” of ice now after the warm/wind last weekend

———————————

We fished the dry arm again this week around the Nelson Creek launch, ice was 6-7 inches on the ramp side ,4-4 1/2 going west towards McGuire Creek and 7-8 going south of the ramp. On Saturday, it was nearly 50 degrees down there, and Sunday was, again, warm with winds over 50 mph at times. So, if you are heading that way after the warm weather, make sure you check the ice even if you see tracks out there .

The fishing was pretty good, especially Saturday ahead of the front that  came in. Nearly all of our fish were caught on tip-ups with shiners and fathead minnows. We ended up with a few limits of nice eater walleye, some northerns and some good eating sized ling. The bite was pretty steady all day Saturday with some walleye biting late in the day, as well as a couple bigger fish that broke us off.

Colder temps this week hopefully build the ice back up to where it was before the warm-up. Good luck and stay safe to everyone heading out this week!
