Fort Peck Ice Fishing Report by Don Wilkins 12.4.24

Thin ice, big catches! Nelson Creek offered walleye, pike, catfish, and even a ling this weekend, but the ice is sketchy—stay safe out there

The Nelson Creek ramp area down the dry arm had 4-5 inches of good clear ice this past weekend,as we walked further around from the immediate ramp area the ice looking towards McGuire creek was 3.5-4 inches thick and had some wet cracks in it on Sunday that didn’t look very safe to cross

We did manage to get some tip-ups out and caught a good mix of walleye, pike, catfish, and one ling, the fish were in 6-8 FOW and we had our baits hanging about a foot off the bottom, we used sucker and shiner minnows and both worked equally well.

Overnight lows the next few nights are forecasted just below freezing and daytime highs are well above freezing the next several days and the little ice that is there now might not withstand these warm temps for long so if you are going out please be extremely cautious
