ABSAROKEE – An emergency closure for boating and floating on a 3-mile section of the Stillwater River near Absarokee has been lifted, effective 9 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 8. Working with Stillwater County, Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks implemented the closure on Aug. 1 due to unsafe river conditions from nearby road construction.

The river closure extended from Absaroka Fishing Access Site (FAS) to Jeffrey’s Landing FAS. Construction crews working on North Stillwater Road have temporarily re-channeled the river but are still working in the area. River users are advised to use caution while boating and floating through this section of the Stillwater River as the construction continues. Additional river closures from this construction project are not anticipated but may change based on project progress.
