Colorado Parks and Wildlife needs a new source of gray wolves for their reintroduction project after the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation in Washington State withdrew their offer to provide wolves. This decision came because CPW didn’t involve the Southern Ute Tribe in stakeholder discussions. CPW has already released 10 wolves in Grand and Summit counties and plans to release 30 to 50 wolves over the next few years. They now face the challenge of finding new partners willing to support the reintroduction.
