The Bureau of Land Management on Wednesday announced a public comment period for a proposal to open a half-mile section of road that would allow motorized access to 51 miles of primitive roads in the Upper Missouri River Breaks National Monument. The section of road would connect to a recent Fish, Wildlife & Parks’ agreement with the Square Butte Grazing Association that opened access into the area for 10 years. By opening the route, the BLM would circumvent the Anchor Ranch along Bullwhacker Road where access into the region has been disputed for more than a decade. This small section of road would provide easier access to 83,600 acres of public land containing elk, mule deer and bighorn sheep.
