Canyon FerryFor those who ventured out on a beautiful weekend, they were met with great walleye fishing.  Trolling bottom bouncers, crankbaits and spoons in green, yellow or gold colors was producing walleye.  The hot spots were Duck Creek to Pond 2, Silos north to Hole in the Wall, and near the river mouth in 10-20 feet of water. Rainbow and perch are also being picked up while using walleye gear in the same spots.  Shore fishing for rainbows continues to produce good results at Hellgate, Shannon and Chinamen’s while fly fishing with nymphs or using worms.  Troy Humphrey, FWP, Helena

Hauser:  Rainbow fishing from shore has been awesome at the Causeway while using crawlers and a marshmallow, Wooly Buggers and leech patterns, or Panther Martin and Mepps spinners. Trolling crankbaits around the Black Sandy area is producing a few rainbow strikes, and fishing from shore below Canyon Ferry Dam has also been productive for rainbows and a few walleye while using plain nightcrawlers or jigs and worms.  Chris Hurley, FWP, Helena

Holter:  Rainbow fishing continues to be great throughout the reservoir while trolling pink and silver spoons and while fishing from shore at Departure Point with crawlers and a marshmallow or various spinners. A few kokanee salmon are being caught near the public boat ramps on the lower end of the reservoir with plain nightcrawlers or various flies. A few perch and walleye are being caught in the canyon near the Gates of the mountains and around Cottonwood Creek while pitching green, white, or pink jigs with night crawlers.  Chris Hurley, FWP, Helena

Helena Valley Regulating Reservoir:  The snagging season for Kokanee Salmon opened on September 1st and will run through October 31st.  Limits are 35 salmon daily with 70 in possession.  Chris Hurley, FWP, Helena
